Areas of Practice

Legal disputes can be a significant cause of stress. Bring me in early so I can minimize your losses, shield you from the negativity of the other party, and advocate on your behalf for the earliest and best possible resolution.

Whether through formal negotiations at a scheduled mediation or informally through discussions with opposing counsel, I work to help my clients achieve resolution of their disputes before trial where possible.

I have experience appearing on matters at Provincial Court, the Court of King’s Bench and the Alberta Court of Appeal. My representative work includes insurance defence, professional negligence claims, and a wide range of commercial litigation matters.

Litigation & Dispute Resolution

When fraud or suspected fraud is detected in an organization, it is essential to promptly retain legal counsel to assist to ensure the organization’s obligations are complied with and its interests protected.

I assist with investigations, analyze the incident to identify potential violations of law, advise on potential consequences, risks, and options available, assess the existence of any regulatory obligations triggered by the incident, correspond with authorities, assist with notification (where applicable), and work with other experts brought in to help.

The content and terms of any agreement can vary significantly depending on the relevant context and jurisdiction. It is best practice to consult with us when creating, negotiating or interpreting any legal agreement.

Legal Agreements

You may have intellectual property without realizing it. Do you have a trade-name you have used in commerce? Have you produced materials in the course of your business that you believe should be proprietary? I can help you assess whether or not your creative work can be protected by copyright, trademark, or patent law.

Intellectual Property

All businesses need to minimize their legal liability and risk. I will assess the structure of your operation, such as its physical or digital space, the types of products or services you sell, who your consumers are, and so on. From there, I will tailor the right risk plan, complete with client acceptance protocols, draft contracts for the sale of your goods or services, identify required permits (where applicable), recommend relevant insurance policies, and more, so you can worry less about liabilities and concentrate on growing your business.

Liability & Risk

Lawyers, physicians, engineers, accountants and other regulated professions sometimes are required to respond to a complaint made to their provincial regulatory authority. I assist with drafting a fulsome response to misconduct-related queries from professional regulatory authorities. In 95% of cases I’ve handled, professional complaints have been resolved without need of a formal investigation or the imposition of disciplinary action.
