More About Katherine

Katherine Hardy, Founder

With nearly two decades of legal experience, I am a seasoned lawyer well-versed in diverse commercial legal matters. Fluent in English and Cantonese (and limited proficiency in Mandarin), I am able to effectively assist a broad spectrum of clients.

In my third year of law school, I attended St. Peter’s College at Oxford University for an International Intellectual Property Law program covering trademark, patent and copyright laws in Canada, the U.S and E.U. I then took a semester to work at Clifford Chance LLP in Hong Kong.

My litigation and dispute resolution experience comes primarily from my early career at a large Canadian law firm where I appeared as counsel on matters at Provincial Court, the Court of King’s Bench and the Alberta Court of Appeal. Importantly, I helped clients achieve pre-trial resolution of their disputes using my written and oral advocacy skills in informal negotiations with opposing counsel as well as in formal mediations. My representative work includes insurance defence, professional negligence, and commercial litigation matters.

Prior to founding my own firm, I worked as in-house counsel to a Canadian Chartered Professional Accounting firm which I helped shepherd through fifteen years of significant growth from $250 million in revenue in 2008 to $1.5 billion in 2022. I advised the firm on a very wide range of topics including, privacy law, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory and compliance matters, employment law, insurance, commercial leasing, management of significant litigation, and operational risk management strategies. I drafted firm policies and procedures, provided training to stakeholders, assisted with management and administration of the legal department, and built relationships with regulators and other industry members. In addition to this breadth of legal knowledge, my term as in-house counsel has refined me into a lawyer who gives practical advice that is tailored to your personal or business reality.
